Angry embers rupture through this seemingly unholy script, it meets the mood of solitude and unbalanced emotion. Incredibly heavy and thought provoking, making you crumble from inside leaving you with an impressive after thought which embeds itself in the listeners mind. With some music you can switch your thoughts to other things that might be troubling you but this will envelope you and there is almost nothing that can wake you from its musing. And I’m only 2 tracks in. To say that I’m looking forward to the rest is an understatement. Admittedly Conan is not for the faint hearted but those who do like to dabble I implore you to just give it a try. Music is all about atmosphere especially when listening to a new artist, having researched the band and related artists I had an idea of how I wanted to create the best situation to truly appreciate their ideals.
Whisky and darkness, and it didn’t let me down.
I am a big fan of Sun O))) and they kicked up quite a bit of dust, so it is very surprising to see how Conan have somehow slipped under the metal radar when there are so many fans of the genre who love nothing more than to dig up a golden black nugget of Doom Metal. Throughout the whole album (or EP? Is it an EP?!) there is a consistent drone of well thought out guitar play, lyrically there isn’t much to say about it, merely an accompaniment to the genius that glides instrumentally. Most of the album flows quite effortlessly, with exception to ‘Golden Axe’ which lends itself to a more ambient surreal sequence, forever almost climaxing then tearing itself down before progressing. My tastes are fairly eclectic but a few close friends who are closer to the genre will most certainly be hearing from me about this.
The whole album (or EP?!) is a story in itself from beginning to end, it’s apparent that a lot of thought went into the sequencing of the tracks, beautifully laid out and maddeningly inspiring. It leaves you yearning for more and attempting to listen to something else in order to try and soothe your anguish only exacerbates things. My advice, buy the album, put it on repeat and lose yourself for an evening.
