SURGERY the first remix album from Burden Limbs will be released on October 23 by Glasshouse Records. The eight-track re-working of the band’s debut EP There Is No Escape features a range of different mutations of the Burden Limbs sound. Where the original content is frenzied, bleak, and deranged, Surgery offers different perspectives on the songs with some residing in as contrasting genre-landscapes as ambient-dub, psych, and electronica. Featured artists include Gnoomes, Ilia Gorovitz (formerly of HYNOM), Metalogue, and Teeth of The Sea’s Mike Bourne whose mix – an unravelling of ‘Shallow Grave’ and ‘Hypochondriac’ renamed ‘Shallow Hypochondriac’ we premiere here.
Commenting on the album, the band’s founder and creative director, Chad Murray, states: “The remix collection is intended to give greater focus to the sonic polygonality of our music. We have six great musicians and a fantastic producer working together to make a well-polished, unholy racket. However, there are very melodic and simple songs at the heart of this, and there are many beautiful layers that will only be appreciated on repeated listening. To have this collection will allow an easy vehicle for those not familiar with our music to hear it in a more welcoming context, but also allow people to appreciate these layers of our sound that might otherwise be missed. It is an immense honour to have all of these artists involved and is very flattering that they consider our music worthy of repeated listening . . . I named the collection Surgery as it felt like an apt way of describing people chopping our tracks up and doctoring them, reassembling them as they see fit. . .”
