Petbrick are a powerhouse two-man noise unit set to destroy. They’ve just put out their debut album I via Rocket Recordings, ten hefty slabs of dystopian electronic scree and thundering metal drums with occasionally daft titles. What we have for you today is a live set from this year’s Woodland Gathering captured by IMPATV. The soundtrack to a post-apocalyptic sci-fi cityscape, conjured up by two men in a shed in the leafy retreat of the lake district.
Petbrick is Wayne Adams (Big Lad/Death Pedals/Johnny Broke) and Iggor Cavalera (Sepultura/Soulwax/Mixhell). If the obvious initial thought is that it’ll be a bit like Wayne’s other drums + electronics duo Big Lad, it becomes almost immediately apparent Petbrick has its own distinct personality. It’s kind of industrial metal but without the tired bloat and buzz of the guitars, streamlined and more agile but no less caustic. Live, it is invigorating, chaotic, physical music. When Iggor plays the drums the earth beneath you shakes. It might be hard to get this effect through the internet but at least you can admire Wayne’s mullet. Turn it up loud.
Noise Against Nazi Scum is the Petbrick motto, a direct response to the present fascist government in Cavalera’s home country Brazil but acknowledged as applicable worldwide.
