Ahead of this year’s HRH Prog festival, which starts on Thursday, we sent two of our resident progheads, Charlie Gardner & Gaz Cloud, out to talk to some of the bands on the bill. In this episode, they talk to Jaime Gomez Arellano from Messenger.
(((o))): What can we expect from Messenger at HRH Prog IV?
In this particular case, we’ll be performing two new songs from our forthcoming album Threnodies.
(((o))): Which of the other bands on the bill will you try to catch, and why?
Unfortunately we’re only there on Saturday, so we’ll be definitely watching Ian Anderson performing the best of Jethro Tull. Why? Because it would be madness not to! 🙂
(((o))): Do you think it’s important prog has its own bespoke festival?
Absolutely! It’s great opportunity for prog fans to catch a few bands they like in one go, as well as discover new bands.
(((o))): What are your plans in the months following the festival?
We’re on tour with the Von Hertzen Brothers around the time of the festival. We’re very excited about this as well the release of our new album Threnodies which will come out on InsideOut Records on the 22nd of April.
(((o))): What should any self-respecting prog fan make sure they pack before heading off to a chalet festival on the Ll?n Peninsula?
Black Sabbath 4 to stay sane.
(((o))): What does the term “prog” mean to you?
Just a name to tag bands that exist outside standard music.
(((o))): What would be your weapon of choice in the event of a zombie apocalypse?
Bows and arrows.
(((o))): The organisers ask you to play an ad hoc unplugged at the top of Snowdon. Are you mad enough to do it?
(((o))): Additionally, what Bowie track would you choose to play as an encore?
“Life on Mars”.
Messenger play HRH Prog IV on Saturday 19 March, 2016.
