BRITNEY from Scotland: Find Us
In 50 words or less, tell us what you sound like?
Who can define the objective sound of truth? For some, the truth is difficult to listen to. For others, it sounds like liberation. Ultimately, that is not a judgement for me to make: that power lies in the hands of the people, where all true power belongs.
In 100 words or less, tell us why we should listen to you?
It's quite simple, really. We're 3 working class lads making real songs for real people. No faffing about, know what I mean? Rock n' roll is the real world, and we are the red pill that will set you free from your lives of commercialized illusion. Let BRITNEY be your guide on the quest for truth, brothers and sisters.
If you had to pick one of your tracks for our readers to listen to, which would it be?
The Thespian's Moniker (which has its own video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EXdMXpJdfTY)
Give us 3 bands you’d recommend we listen to?
Secta Rouge (the most important Edinburgh band in history), Semantik Punk and Down I Go.
What inspires your music?
Ridiculous though it may sound, I'm a big R Kelly fan, particularly with regards to his extraordinary talent for delivering vulgar, sexually explicit lyrics in a fashion that is deceptively sweetly-sung and accessible, and the objective of BRITNEY has always been to craft a subversive interpretation of that artistic approach, that essentially has the opposite effect. That is to say, though all BRITNEY songs are, lyrically, classic love songs in many respects, they're wrapped in a highly abrasive musical shell. I feel that, through this approach, BRITNEY and R Kelly will come to represent the two extremes of the artistic spectrum that most accurately capture the true essence of human love and sensuality.
What we say:
Barking mad but hugely entertaining. See them live if you possibly can. - Bruce
