In some parallel universe somewhere out beyond time there is no doubt another version of Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs (Pigs x7) who release songs solely under a couple of minutes long. Exciting chunks of garage inspired garage, which may even hit their version of the Top 40. Luckily for us we get the version of Pigs x7 that likes to take their time about things and spread themselves over at least twenty minutes, much like this new release Psychopomp.
Maybe their time hanging around with Cosmic Dead is starting to have an effect as they also seem to be heading into much more spacier territory as the Joseph Curve remix makes clear although the original version is no less so. It’s an exciting turn from one of the most exciting bands on the underground scene at the moment and bodes well for a long future.
Psychopomp itself builds up into an intense attack on the mind as the repeated riff competes with the vocals. It’s inimitable Pigs x7 and doesn’t give you room to breathe for a second as it continues to bring in new twists and turns to keep you occupied. It’s not as immediate as their split with Cosmic Dead was, but opens new avenues to explore.
About ten minutes in something happens and we are hurled into another section of the song. A section which positively howls with rage and turmoil as the guitars rise and the demonic vocals bay for your blood. It’s a brilliant moment and probably the key to how Pigs x7 manage to keep your attention. Give them the drone and then tear it up.
Pigs x7 may be the best band on the planet right now. If you like your music loud, inspired and with minimal bullshit then this is the band for you. If you like short sharp shocks then move to that parallel universe. Pigs x7 are brilliant, their music is brilliant and this song is brilliant.
