Veil Cassini - Veil Cassini EP

Ah, the sound of eager young pups, there’s nothing like it. All that bright eyed, bushy tailed enthusiasm, it’s a tonic to the soul and there’s plenty of it here. Veil Cassini come screaming out of the musical hotbed that is deepest Devon with a five track EP of energetic indie flavoured rock tunes.

The aural blast kicks off with ‘Wet Fish’, probably the strongest of the selection, and a right old belter it is too. A big riff opening and shout-a-long chorus carries you along at helterskelter pace. This leads nicely in to the twinkling guitar opening to ‘Silhouette’ and some delightful vocal harmonising, soon descending to more good rocking.

‘Box and Cox’ is the other standout track here, all stop start and angular riffage, it sports probably the strongest vocal performance of the five songs here.

There’s a strong feel of the turn of the last decade on this record, but not the fey indie sound of that time, more the muscularity of the likes of The Strokes and Biffy Clyro.

There’s a whole lot of potential bottled up in this short, sharp burst of song. A full length album is to be looked forward to.

Top Tracks: 'Wet Fish', ‘Box & Cox’.
